CNC Lathe (Turning) Operator Job Description - OPEN POSITION 

Position Information:

  • Job Title: CNC Lathe (Turning) Operator

Position Summary: 

The CNC Lathe (Turning) Operator at Fusion Fabricating & Manufacturing is responsible for operating CNC Lathes to produce precision turned components according to customer specifications.
This position requires experience with turning operations, including setup assistance, tool management, and quality verification.
The ideal candidate will have previous experience with Manual Lathes or basic CNC Equipment and is looking to advance their skills in CNC Turning Operations.
This position regularly handles CUI materials for Defense Contracts and requires strict adherence to Security Protocols. 

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
  • Operate CNC Turning Centers to produce precision parts according to Engineering Specifications
  • Read and Interpret Blueprints, Technical Drawings, and Work Instructions
  • Program a Lynx 2600SY (Doosan) CNC Lathe Machine with w Rebel 80 Servo V3 Bar Feeder (3.19" Largest Diameter)
  • This is a Dual Spindle Machine with Inline Tooling
  • Assist with Machine Setup including: Chuck/Collet Changes and Tooling Installation
  • Perform Tool Changes and Offset Adjustments as needed
  • Verify dimensions of finished parts using Precision Measuring Instruments
  • Load raw materials and unload finished components
  • Maintain production rates while ensuring quality standards are met
  • Perform routine Preventative Maintenance and Daily Machine Inspections
  • Monitor machine operation for unusual conditions or quality issues
  • Document Production Data, quality results, and machine issues
  • Maintain cleanliness of equipment and work area
  • Follow all safety procedures and wear appropriate PPE
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors regarding production status
  • Support continuous improvement efforts through suggestions and feedback
  • Cross-train on other machining equipment as needed
  • Assist with Inventory Management of Consumable Tooling

Required Qualifications:

  • 1. High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Minimum 1-Year experience operating Manual Lathes or basic CNC Equipment

  • Familiarity with turning operations and principles

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings

  • Proficient in using precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, thread gauges)

  • Basic understanding of machining processes and cutting tools

  • Attention to detail and quality focus

  • Basic computer literacy

  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and procedures

  • Understanding of or willingness to learn security protocols for handling CUI

  • Have all tools/equipment needed to perform job duties

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience with CNC Turning Centers

  • Technical Training or Certification in Machining

  • Experience with common CNC Control Systems (Fanuc, Haas, etc.)

  • Familiarity with SPC and Quality Inspection methods

  • Knowledge of GD&T Principles

  • Experience in a Precision Manufacturing environment

Physical Demands & Working Conditions:

  • Regular standing and walking throughout shift (8+ hours)

  • Ability to lift and move up to 35 pounds regularly

  • Manual dexterity to operate machinery, tools, and measuring devices

  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment

  • Work environment includes exposure to machinery, moving parts, metal chips, and moderate noise levels

  • May be exposed to cooling fluids, oils, and cleaning chemicals

  • Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts

  • Occasionally required to reach, bend, and stoop
