Senior Estimator - North of Detroit - Days - $110K to $130K Per Year
A leading architectural millwork and custom fabrication firm with over 40 years of
excellence, is seeking a Senior Estimator to join our dynamic team.
This role is crucial in ensuring the success of high-end commercial and residential interior projects by delivering accurate and competitive estimates.
As a Senior Estimator, you will lead the takeoff and estimating process for custom
millwork projects, collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, designers, and clients, and contribute to strategic pricing decisions that align with our reputation for craftsmanship and precision.
This is a high-impact role that requires deep knowledge of millwork materials,
construction methods, and a strong ability to interpret architectural drawings.
Key Responsibilities:
Analyze architectural drawings, specifications, and bid documents to prepare detailed cost estimates for custom millwork and interior fabrication projects.
Perform quantity take-offs and cost breakdowns for materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractors.
Collaborate with the design and engineering teams to identify project challenges and value engineering opportunities.
Develop and maintain relationships with vendors and subcontractors to ensure competitive pricing and up-to-date market rates.
Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and post-bid reviews.
Lead the preparation of RFI’s, bid proposals, scope sheets, and qualification
documents.
Maintain historical cost databases and assist in updating pricing tools and estimation software.
Provide support to project managers during project handoff and execution, ensuring seamless transition from estimate to production.
Mentor junior estimators and support staff as needed.
Job Requirements: Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
Minimum 5 years of estimating experience in architectural millwork, custom fabrication, or related fields.
Deep understanding of AWI standards and other relevant construction industry codes and practices.
Skills and Competencies:
Proficiency with estimating software (e.g., PlanSwift, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, or other takeoff and project management tools).
Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Exceptional attention to detail with a keen eye for identifying cost risks and
opportunities.
Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective internal and client-facing interactions.
Proven ability to manage multiple bids simultaneously and meet strict deadlines.
Ability to read and interpret complex architectural and shop drawings.
Self-motivated and team-oriented with a passion for quality and craftsmanship.
